Full Description
An archaeological survey by Dagg. C was undertaken in 2003 in advance of water mains renewal.
The following features were noted on the 1st edition OS map: Kindeace Burn: sawmill and mill lade at NH 7182 7464. A lade diverts from the burn south of the road, runs northwest parallel to the road then turns NNE to rejoin the burn. Approximately eight small buildings and one small garden area on both sides of this lade, none of which appear to be indicated on modern maps. Most of the buildings along the lade south of the road have been removed completely, and the lade itself can only be seen where it rejoins the Kindeace Burn. North of the road there is no trace of the lade crossing the improved field, and it is assumed not to survive as an archaeological feature. <1>
