Full Description

A desktop survey was undertaken by Stuart Farrell for an area of proposed new woodland in August 2009.

Site 31: Tumuli marked on 1st and 2nd edition OS; not marked on latest OS. Area of field system is shown to be quite extensive on base map (NC91NW) held in NMRS (See green outline on figure 2) based on information from Ordnance Survey. <1>

NGR adjusted based on 1999-2001 vertical aerial photographs. <2>

NOTE: These 'Tumuli' are shown on the OS 1st and 2nd Edition maps lying either side of the Loth Burn. However they are not commented upon on in what would be assumed to be associated records (see two hut circles - MHG9981 and MHG64460) other than being referred to as 'a few scattered clearance heaps' and no additioonal records were created in what were at the time OS and then RCAHMS records, other than being shown on older record maps as referred to above in <1> [IS-L 30/06/2025).
