Full Description

NH69NE 6 691 991.

Centred on NH 691 991, in a S-facing hillside, is a settlement of four heather-covered hut circles (A - D) accompanied by a minor field system. Internal dimensions 'A' - 'D' respectively, are 7.5m NW-SE by 5.0m, 3.5m diameter, 6.5m and 5.5m diameter; entrances when discernible are in the SE quarter. The wall of hut 'B' is obscure; in the other huts the walls are visible as rubble spreads on average 1.5m to 2.0m broad and 0.2m to 0.4m high.
The field system comprises numerous stone clearance heaps, spaced on average 10.0m to 20.0m apart, and tenuous traces of lynchets. There are no measureable plots.

DBAs and walkover surveys were carried out by CFA Archaeology Ltd in November 2002 and April 2003 in advance of a proposed wind farm development at Cambusmore Estate, near Bonar Bridge, Sutherland.

Site 14: Corresponding to NMRS site NH69NW 6c, this well preserved hut circle is situated on a level platform on a shelf on the hillside. The hut is c.5m in diameter defined by well preserved, heather covered, low turf banks 2m wide and up to 0.5m high on the south aspect. A possible entrance is visible in the bank to the southeast. <1>
