Full Description
A walkover survey was carried out by Wordsworth Services in 2003 in advance of a woodland grant scheme application for five separate blocks of ground on the Morvich Estate.
Site 21: A longhouse building 16m by 4m fronts a badly preserved enclosure 16m in diameter that extends almost to the burn to the S & W. These features are badly obscured by bracken. Immediately to the S the area is heavily disturbed by a feeding area for cattle and this is encroaching particular on the Y-shaped structure. (see MHG63664). Three structures are shown here on the current OS map though this is a misreading of the surviving features. Nothing was shown here on the earlier OS maps and while it is possible the Y-shaped structure was built after 1901 the longhouse structure is likely to have been abandoned long before this and it is more probable that the features were missed by surveyor error. <1>
