Full Description

A walkover survey and desk-based assessment for the National Trust estate at Torridon was carried out by J Wordsworth and J Harden.

Just to the north o f the roundhouse (see MHG34805) is a small round-ended rectangular structure, probably contemporary with an enclosure formed by a wiggly drystone dyke which 'contains' both structures. Aligned N-S it is c5.5m by c 3m over walls c0.6m thick and c0.5m high, although the SSE corner stands to c1m high. Its west side is cut into the hillslope. <1>

A Welti and C Dagg in 2009 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This slightly oval stone structure is situated on one of three river terraces beside a break of slope in a steep sided river valley. There are three terraces. The HC seems to be a single structure. The terrain is very rough and rocky with rank heather and bracken both inside and outside the HC. Just to the N is a shieling built into the slope. <2> <3>
