Full Description

A large cairn near Hill Cottage.

The site is visible as a large earthwork c.15m in diameter in vertical aerial photographs. <1> <2>

The site was visited and noted by C Dagg during a walkover survey undertaken in 2017 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. Site 6: Cairn One of three large stony mounds, defined as cairns, which form part of this extensive archaeological site as recorded on the Highland HER. The other two lie to the southeast, outwith the proposed planting area (see MHG11772). This cairn is a prominent feature in the landscape, with its rubble core partly exposed. <3>

NOTE: C Dagg assumed this cairn was included within the description for hut circles and field system to the south and southeast, however it does not appear to have been previously noticed and described [IS-L 27/11/2025].
