Kilmaruy Burial Ground (Disused) (NAT)
OS 6"map, Isle of Skye, Inverness-shire, (1903)
Kilmaruy: a disused burial ground. It is not certain if there ever was a church or chapel here.
Name Book 1878.
Chapel, Kilmaruy, opposite Sartil. Listed under sites. RCAHMS 1928.
There are no traces of this chapel, but it probably stood upon the mound occupying the centre of the enclosure.

The OS 1st Edition map shows an unenclosed oval area within which are two small rectangular enclosures, the northern of which has two compartments. It is labelled as 'Disused' on both the 1st and 2nd editions. It was subsequently surrounded by a rectangular stone wall and brought back into use, with a modern extension to the west. It is unclear what the internal enclosures were, given that they appear to have been extended subsequently and now have the appearance of a complex of rooms which follow the natural slope of the site downwards to the east. On vertical aerial photography there is also a small square stone enclosure measuring 3m x 3m abutting the external south side of the later wall close to its southeast corner. <1> <2> <3>
