Full Description
The former settlement of Rearple to the north of Little Aitnoch, Dava. A cluster of six buildings with nearby cultivated fields to the west is shown at this location on the Roy Military Survey maps. A cluster of roofed buildings and a small enclosure are shown in on the OS 1st Edition map. On available vertical aerial photography only the small enclosure now appear to remain, the site of the buildings having been heavily disturbed. <1> <2> <3>
The settlement is listed as 'Bierple' in the gazetteer of the DBA element of the EIA for the proposed Cairn Duhie Wind Farm from 2004 by Kirkdale Archaeology, though it did not fall within the walkover survey element of the archaeological work. The Roy Military Survey Maps are given as the source for the site (and a mis-reading of the Roy annotation gives the incorrect name) but the approximate 4-figure grid reference provided places its location c.700m too far to the south-southeast. <4>
