Full Description

Earthworks of a possible farmstead and enclosures to the northwest of Druimandonich. The features are visible in vertical aerial photography adjacent to a small unnamed southwest flowing burn and consist of at least one rectangular building with a small square enclosure to its immediate north and a dyke. The features do not appear on any OS mapping, but are (with the possibly associated small enclosure to the southwest - see MHG36957) roughly in the position of a cluster of buildings shown on the Roy Military Survey maps and labelled 'Invamore'. If so, the earthworks probably pre-date the substantial dyke to the immediate south and represent the original settlement of the pre-crofting township (see MHG65421). The dyke may have been the head dyke of a crofting township intended to replace 'Invamore' but which doesn't appear to have become established (see MHG65420) unlike Inverroy to the east (see MHG65419) which appears to have replaced an earlier settlement, 'Invabeg' (see MHG65418) also shown on the Roy Military Maps. Alternatively, the intention may have been to create a single crofting township encompassing both original settlements and their cultivated fields, but if that was the case no crofts appear to have been established over the former 'Invamore' area. <1> <2>
