Full Description

Settlement, township and crofting township of Kilmonivaig at the south end of Loch Lochy. A church at this location is referred to in 1449 (see MHG4261), with the implication and in subsequent sources of an associated settlement. The placename 'Kilmanevach' is shown close to the confluence of the Spean and the Lochy and the Roy Military Survey map shows two clusters of buildings with cultivated fields surrounding and to the southwest immediatley adjacent to the south bank of the Spean. By the 19th century a probable combination of the migration of the Spean, the reorganisation of the area into a crofting township and construction of the Caledonian Canal had moved the focus of the settlement to the south. <1> <2>
