Full Description

A group of shieling huts at Achadh na h-Eirghe.

Vertical aerial photography shows the remains of a group of circular and sub-rectangular shieling huts on the west side of the Allt na h-Eirighe just to the north of its confluence with the River Loy. There appear to be at least eight circular huts and two, possiby three sub-rectangular huts. The place name 'Achadh na h-Eirighe' translates as 'Field of the Shieling' and a larger settlement (see MHG30505) may have been a later development or expansion of the older shieling site, with itself later superceded by at least two sheep folds (see MHG30439 and MHG65414). <1> <2>
