Full Description

The head dyke of a possible crofting township and settlement to the west of Inverroy on the north side of the River Spean. The dyke is shown on the OS 1st Edition map and is visible as a substantial earthwork in vertical aerial photography. It may have been intended to enclose a crofting township to replace an earlier settlement of 'Invamore' (Invermore - see MHG65111) as shown on the Roy Military Survey maps. Alternatively it may have enclosed a wider area of the new crofting settlement of Inverroy with the intention that it replaced both of the earlier crofting settlements of 'Invamore' and 'Invabeg' (see MHG65418). Whichever was the case, no linear crofting plots appear to have been established. <1> <2>
