Full Description
The former, and pre-crofting, township, of 'Invamore' (Invermore?).
The township of 'Invamore' is shown on the Roy Military Survey map as a cluster of buildings with associated cultivated fields on the north side of the River Spean and the west side of one of its unnamed tributary burns. By the time of the OS 1st Edition map nothing appeared to remain and a substantial dyke running roughly east-west had been constructed across area. It may have been the intention for this dyke to be the head dyke for a crofting township to replace the earlier township, however, unlike the neighbouring township of 'Invabeg' to the east (see MHG65418) which was replaced by the crofting township of Inverroy (see MHG65419) there is no evidence that the linear plots characteristic of this were ever established. Vertical aerial photography and SEPA LiDAR data show the remains of rig, slighter linear earthworks and enclosures across the approximate area of cultivated fields shown by Roy. The cluster of buildings shown by Roy appears to have been roughly where a group of earthworks and at least two buildings are visible in vertical aerial photographs at NGR 224699 782252 (see MHG65111). <1> <2> <3>
