Full Description
A farmstead, comprising one roofed building and a small enclosure or unroofed building is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map. <1>
The site is visible on vertical aerial photographs and appears a little more complex. The OS 1st edition map shows a small inverted 'L'-shaped building with a small abutting yard, however, the aerial photography shows a more substantial complex, which may indicate later as well as earlier buildings. The smaller building would have appeared to have been longer in both its northern and southern wings and was located in the northeast corner of a larger than the OS depicted rectangular yard or courtyard. A second long building extended northwards from the northwest corner of the yard. The small enclosure or second small unroofed building would appear to be a circular enclosure c.10m in diameter which bears a strong similarity to a prehistoric hut circle (see MHG65449). It may originally have been a hut circle and later adapted for other use. <2> <3>
