Full Description
An enclosure in Achany Wood, Inveran. It was seen and recorded during a survey in 1998 by Wordsworth Archaeological services in advance of a proposed woodland planting scheme. (NOTE: all site NGRS supplied in the report are incorrect and have been corrected using comparison between the plan supplied in the report, available aerial photography, historic OS mapping and SEPA/Scottish Gov LiDAR data)
Site 10: NH 5706 9803 (corrected)
To the west of the enclosure, previously marked as an archaeological site on Forest Authority maps, and just outside the survey area, is an irregular drystone walled enclosure measuring 35m east-west and 26 maximum north-south. The south wall curves to link with the northeast corner. The north edge may be confused with a forestry cutting. It lies just outside the survey area but is probably contemporary with Site 8 (see MHG). Recommendation: Not applicable as outside survey area. <1>
The feature is visible in SEPA/Scottish Gov LiDAR data. <2>
