Full Description

Two possible hut circles and other earthworks at Invershin. The features appear as possible earthworks in SEPA/Scottish Gov LiDAR data on a raised area overlooking the River Shin to the west, with the A837 road immediately to the east. The first possible hut circle lies closest to the road at NGR 257569 897352 and is oval measuring c.12m x 9m in diameter. A number of what may be clearance cairns lie immediately adjacent to the west, south and southwest although it is possible that a group of 6 arranged in a rough circle immediately adjacent to the northwest at NGR 257554 897356 may also be the remains of a second hut circle, and if so it would have been c.13m in diameter. An amorphous mound measuring c.12m x 7.5m lies c.26m to the west of the possible second hut circle at NGR 257516 897355 on the edge of what would originally have been the terrace overlooking the river which has since shifted its course westwards. A vague possible earthwork at NGR 257518 897329 lies c.16m to the immediate south of the amorphous mound. It may represent the remains of a small rectangular building measuring c.11m x 6m . <1>
