Full Description
Remains of a farmstead at Edinbane. On vertical aerial photographs immediately to the north of a rocky outcrop, are the remains of a farmstead comprising a north-northeast - west-southwest orientated longhouse measuring c.13m x 3m with a possible byre or outbuilding immediately adjacent to its southwest corner measuring c.5m x 2.5m. A short length of dyke, measuring c.35m lies just to the west. <1>
NOTE: These buildings almost match the descriptions of two found by M Wildgoose in 2006 during a walkover survey in the areas of two proposed borrow pits for the Edinbane Wind Farm. However, those apparently lay to the south of the rocky outcrop and were almost covered by windblow trees and had almost directly opposite orientations - see MHG65510. If these two sets of buildings are not in fact the same site then it is strange the northern two were not seen by M Wildgoose in 2006 as they lie completely in the open and in the event appear to have been destroyed by the subsequent works associated with the borrow pits - something why the 2006 survey was undertaken to avoid happening in the first place [IS-L 26/01/2026].
