Full Description
Essich House at Essich to the southwest of Inverness. The house is shown as a 'T'-shaped building set in tree-planted grounds on the west side of the Essich Burn on the OS 1st Edition 25 inch map. A large steading complex lies to the immediate west (see MHG65740). By the 2nd Edition the steading had been removed with a replacement complex erected to the southeast. <1> <2>
From vertical aerial photography evidence, the house appears to have latterly undergone a period of abandonment and decline, with the southern north-south portion of the 'T' unroofed and overgrown with self-sown trees with the most recently available aerial photographs also showing the remainder of the house now to be almost completely unroofed. A curving wall runs northwestwards for c.40m from the lower west side of the housee with indications of a similar curving wall running for c.60m southwards from the southern wing of the 'T'. The lines of both are shown on the OS 1st Edition map, with the southern wall ending at what appears to be a small square building which may have functioned as a gate lodge as a driveway that curls around the east side of the house commences at this point. <3>
