Full Description
The gardens and designed landscape around Braal Castle, Halkirk. The designed landscape is shown on the OS 1st Edition map primarily to the northeast of the C14 ruined tower house (see MHG1768) and the late C19 former hotel (see MHG37238). An extensive polygonal walled garden lies immediayely adjacent to the house to the northeast with the remainder of the area planted with to ceate a woodland setting. They presumably comtemporary with the building of the hotel over the unfinished vaults and foundations of a proposed replacement mansion house though they may have been laid out earlier for the mansion house. <1>
The western portion of the walled garden is now occupied by a house.
