Full Description
Feature 4a; On the slopes, steep in places, on both east and west sides of the small glen occupied by the Allt Lochan a' Mhuilinn as it approaches Port Mor, are extensive remains of rig agriculture. There are however no corresponding remains of permanent or semi-permanent local settlement. In explanation of this apparent anomaly, it is suggested that the area is one of essentially temporary agricultural use, with cultivation of marginal land for one or a few years only, as a consequence of over-population, possibly due to or exacerbated by the clearance of households from more fertile land elsewhere. <1>
