Full Description
Feature 5.9; Shieling. At the south spur of Cnoc Poll a Mhurain in an area covered by loose tumble and scree and close to an expanse of wet boggy scrub land, looking southwest to the peninsula southwest ofSheigra, a penannular ring about 3m in diameter open to the south is formed of large boulders piled to a maximum height of 0.8m and a width of 0.6m. Wrthin the interior is a smaller horseshoe of boulders lm by 1.6m also open to the south. The construction of both features is very rough, using fairly large stones. At the southwest of the outer ring lies an open circle approximately lm in diameter also roughly constructed of piled boulders.
The purpose of this feature could not be determined, but it is suggested it may have been the base of a hut circle re-used as a shieling. <1>
