Full Description
Remains of a farmstead within the former township of Balmeanach, Glenhinnisdal. It is shown on the OS 1st Edition map as a roofless building south of the track with two smaller roofed building, a small unroofed building and a small enclosure to the north. A short length of dyke runs from the southern of the two roofed buildings. By the second edition, all the buildings are shown as unroofed, but a second unroofed building is shown to the southeast of the southernmost. <1> <2>
Vertical aerial photography shows a more complex group of structures. To the south of what is now a road, the earthworks of three buildings, one 'L'-shaped, with part of it presumably having been a byre, and two enclosures are visible. To the north of the road the former buildings have either been demolished or adapted into a sheepfold complex. The remains of the small enclosure to the immediate north are also visible. A futher enclosure to the west of the southern buildings on the opposite side of the Lon a' Bhaile Mheadhonaich may also have formed part of this farmstead. Much of what survives probably pre-dates the OS 1st Edition map, though it is impossible to be certain without further investigation. <3> <4>
