Full Description
Mr Howieson found a stone axe whilst digging for a wall foundation at NH 8672 5597 in 1968 (Information from P S Howieson, Altonsyde, Nairn).
The following year he found a 17th century shield some 15m N of the axe find.
Both were sent for dating to the NMAS in 1973, but Mr Howieson hopes to have them both returned to him in due course.
Findspot of axe surveyed at 1:2500.
Visited by OS (A A) 15 February 1974.
The NMS lists a coarse grey, roughly ground stone axehead, possibly from Altonsyde, Nairn. Acc. No. 2009.99. <1>
