Full Description
On the summit of Torran Dubh, a rocky rise in a field, is a stony mound 10.5m NW-SE by 9m transversely by 1.1m high. The SW and NE sectors have been partially quarried and in the latter living rock is visible; in the SSW on the line of the periphery is an earthfast slab 0.6m long by 0.5m high by 0.4m thick. There is a general turf cover but a content of small to medium rounded and angular stone is evident. This is possibly a cairn, particularly as the earthfast slab noted looks like a kerb stone. However, the living rock in the NE appears to intrude into the body of the mound, and field clearance cannot be ruled out. Visited by OS (J M) 15 September 1981.
