A stone-walled circular hut measuring 6.5m in diameter between a rubble wall 1.3m wide having no outer facing stones but faced internally with slabs on edge. The entrance in the ESE is mutilated. No trace of contemporary cultivation. Surveyed at 1/10,000. Visited by OS (A A) 31 May 1974.

188498 839731 Slumbay 1 EB001: The hut circle was visited by A Welti and K Clarke in 2009 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. The circular HC sits on a platform built out from from a gentle slope with SE aspect and with panoramic views over land and to Loch Carron. The HC is 75m from a burn and 1000m from the sea loch. Average interior diameter is 5.8m, exterior diam is 9.9m. Wall structure cannot be discerned, wall thickness is 1.1m, max height is 2m. A probable entrance faces SE. The wall is highest on the built up SW arc. There are vestiges of facing stones. The walling shows up in landscape due to heather cover. The interior is tussocky grass. Possible footings of an earlier circular structure show up on the sketch and on photo. The HC sits about 40m E of a dyke which is visible for 40m, and about 30m SW of a 60m length of dyke, indicating an enclosure. The HC does not seem to be associated with either Black Rock HCs (over 1000 m distant) or with PS008 and PS007 (Torre Fionn - see MHG7655 & MHG57756) which are also about 1000 m away. <2> <3>
