185198 888796 JAN023 Isle Ewe 1: The hut circle was visited by A MacInnes in 2014 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. This circular stone structure is in good condition with the ring bank, the entrance and a number of stones clearly visible. It is sited on a moderate south facing slope. The vegetation in the surrounding landscape is a mixture of heather and grass. Inside the structure there is a mixture of heather, bracken and grass. There is a stream 300m to the east of the HC and it lies 400m from the sea loch, Loch Ewe. An enclosure is adjacent to the HC and there are other field boundaries in the vicinity. Views from the site are panoramic over land and sea. The HC platform is dug into and built out from the slope. The interior of the structure is nest shaped and the ring bank has spread. The inner diameter averages 6.0m, the outer is 11.0m. The double skinned wall is 2.0m thick with maximum height 0.75m. A definite entrance faces SE with external width 0.75m, internal width 1.0m and passage length 2.0m. JAN023 is distant 100m from JAN024 (see MHG58809). <2> <3>
