Clachuil - Hollowed stone, The name comes from a stone, hollowed out as if for 'crocking' barley, which may still be seen at the Inn of Clachuil.
W J Watson 1904

In eastern end of Inn is a large boulder stone having a round hole in the centre, 'capable of containing an English quart'.
Name Book 1876

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey was conducted during December 2002 by CFA Archaeology Ltd in advance of proposals to renew the Mulbuie water supply within and around Muir of Ord.

Placed in the eastern end of the Inn of Clachuil is a large stone with a round hole in the centre. The stone is laid flat and is built into the end wall at ground level. It is possibly part of a quern stone. The Inn is currently in use as a residence. <1>
