This was the girnal for the small Newhall estate, built in the mid-eighteenth century as a single-storey building and later heightened, with external stairs to the first floor. In 1773 the laird, William Gordon, wrote of having spent two days here 'morning to night, accounting with my tenants, without any assistant, writing, figuring, entering in Compts Book…and now half crazed and half asleep'. The girnal is now converted to a private house.
