A hut circle at Cammassie Burn near Shieldaig.

Hut circle, 8m in diameter, stone wall. Lazy beds to N and NE (see MHG41457). <1>

179820 872659 Camnassie Burn 2 AMC124: The hut circle was visited by A MacInnes in 2010 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. The HC has a slightly oval shape and sits on level ground at the foot of a gentle slope. The structure is overgrown with moss and bracken and is in a clearing surrounded by birch woodland. There is a large stone at the outer face of the entrance. Lazy beds surround the structure.The area seems to be a fertile pocket of ground which has been put to good use. Average inner diameter is 8.35m, outer diameter is 12m. Double skinned wall is 1.7m thick with maximum height 0.6m. The probable entrance faces SW and has width 1m externally, 1.5m internally, with passage length 2m. The hut circle may be associated with AMC123 (see MHG8286) (distant 300m) and AMC125 (see MHG8290) (distant 200m). <2> <3>
