Full Description

Some 680m ENE of where Allt nam Beist cuts road to Achscoriclate at Lon nam Beist, is a large grassy mound measuring about 20m N-S by 17m transversely. On top of mound is a scatter of stones and there is the vague outline of a rectangular structure, possibly a shieling, with possible remains of a sheepfold, about 9m in diameter, on its E side.
Visited by OS (W D J) 15 April 1961.

(ND 0963 4385) Undescribed feature OS 6" map, (1962)

A hut circle, heather and turf-covered, at foot of a NW-facing moorland slope. It measures an estimated 9.5 by 8.5m across internally; wall generally is rather obscure, but where best preserved is a stony spread, 3-3.5m broad and up to 0.4m high. An entrance position is in S, on line of the longer axis, but has been obscured by remains of a shieling-type structure in hut interior. A quantity of stone in NW sector of hut interior and on slope flanking W half of hut suggest residue of other shieling-type structures.
Revised at 1:10560. Visited by OS (J M) 23 February 1982.

An unroofed shieling-hut is depicted on 1st edition of OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xxvii) and on current edition of OS 1:10,560 map (1962).
