A hut circle in Gleann Udalain.

At NG 8603 2925 is a circular stone-walled hut 10.5m. in diameter between centres of a wall spread to 3.0m. Entrance not evident. Surveyed at 1/10,000.
Visited by OS (J M) 5 June 1974.

186016 829243 Glen Udelain 3 JM002: The hut circle was visited by A Welti and K Clarke in 2009 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. This circular HC sits next to and above the flood plain at the base of a W facing slope. Average inner diameter is 8.7m, outer is 12.2m. Double skinned wall thickness is 1.15m, with height 0.46m. A possible entrance faces N. JDG003 (see MHG 9248) and JDG002 (see MHG9212) are roughly on the same contour elevation, 200m,and JM002 is slightly lower at 170m. Distances between these 3 HCs are 600-700m. The banking on W side of HC is 3m high. There is much scatter and tumble. <1> <2>
