(NC 851204) Hut Circles (NR)
OS 6"map, (1962)

A settlement of four hut circles ('A'-'D') discovered during field survey (Information from OS field surveyor 4 May 1962). They have been scooped into the hillside on a S-facing slope. All are entered from the SE. 'A' and 'B' are broadly similar, measuring 11.0m in diameter and 13.0m SE-NW X 11.5m respectively within turf-covered walls of 2.5m general spread widening to 3.5m at the somewhat 'clubbed' entrances.
'C' and 'D' are noticeably smaller and of slighter construction than the other huts. They measure 8.5m and 8.0m in diameter respectively within walls spread to 2.0m.
There are about a dozen clearance heaps in the vicinity, together with a strip of linear clearance. These are the only traces of cultivation in an area of rough hummocky ground.
