Full Description

NC83SW 14 8322 3208.

At NC 8322 3208, set on a south-facing hill slope, there is a burnt mound. It is sub-oval, measuring 9.0m E-W by 8.0m with a height of about 0.9m. A trial dig in the mound revealed a content of blackened earth and small, friable stones. Although the mound is not unlike some of the clearance heaps in the area, its content is quite different. The mound lies immediately to the south of a settlement (NC 83 SW 3), and some 20.0m west of a water course.
Surveyed at 1/10,560. Visited by OS (J B) 1 March 1977
