Full Description

Centred on NC 950201, in broken moorland sheltered from the NW, is a settlement of five hut-circles (A-E). In the vicinity are one or two low stony mounds that may show associated field clearance but the narrow-rig cultivation prevalent in the region of huts'A' and 'B' causes reservation. The huts in the main are heather-covered.
'A' and 'B' remain only in the NE and N half respectively, in the former as an arc of boulder-slab construction indicating an internal diameter of 10.5m, in the latter as an inner curve of intermittent stones on edge backed by peat-silted rubble, overall breadth about 1.5m, giving an estimated 12.0m internal diameter. Entrances are no longer evident in either hut. Hut 'B' in a level, dampish situation is offset to the N by an artificial scarp or lynchet topped by a slight bank, overall maximum height 0.7m, describing an arc at a distance varying from 9-10m concentric with the surviving arc of the hut and fading out at the extremities. It may have been some form of dam to deflect surfact water away from the hut, or it may be associated with nearby run-rig.
'C' is 8.5m diameter inside a wall almost destroyed in the NW half, and elsewhere only readily distinguishable in the W side of an entrance in the SE where a spread of 2.5m is apparent.
'D' and 'E', in order, are contiguous huts on a NW-SE axis. 'D' is 9.0m N-S by 8.0m internal diameter within a robust wall about 1.5m broad. A collapsed entrance is in the south arc. Hut 'E', on a lower stance and set into the slope, is 7.5m in diameter within a wall 0.7m high and spread to 2.0m broad. A simple entrance is in the SW arc. A clearance heap overlies the wall in the NE sector, and there is another just outside the hut on the same arc.
