(NC 9783 1777 : NC 978 11790) Cairns (NR)
OS 6"map, (1964)

A cairn at NC 9783 1777 and possible remains of another at NC 9781 18790 found during field work.
Visited by OS (W D J) 17 May 1960.

The cairn at NC 9783 1777 is set on a prominent rise in undulating hill moorland close to a series of field systems associated with hut circles. It is visible as a low, heather-covered mound, 8.0m high in the NW quarter, having a peristalith of closely spaced stones 0.2m high.
The alleged cairn at NC 9781 1790 is almost certainly a stone clearance heap in the proximity of similar clearance heaps (see NC91NE 65). It remains as a sub-circular, partly peat-covered stony mound about 7.0m diameter by 0.7m high, with an arc of medium sized stones in the periphery in the SE.
Visited by OS (J M) 7 July 1976.
