Full Description

A group of clearance cairns at Hill of Shebster.

There are the remains of two or three stony mounds on the slope of the Hill of Shebster to the S of the cairn noted on ND06SW 5 (at ND 011 646).
RCAHMS 1911.

On the S side of the Hill of Shebster, at ND 010 642 there are about half a dozen heather-covered mounds, probably field clearance heaps. These are possibly the mounds noted by the RCAHMS.
Visited by OS (J B) 5 December 1981.

Four of these cairns were identified in LiDAR data gathered by AOC Archaeology in 2011 as part of the mitigation for the visual impact on the archaeological landscape associated with the proposed Baillie Hill windfarm, Caithness. <1>
