Abstract/Summary
Archaeological desk-based and walk-over surveys were carried out to inform plans for construction of a Archimedean screw hydro-electric scheme at Achnacarry. The site is currently occupied by an existing hydro-electric plant, which in turn appears to stand on, or close to, the site of earlier industrial features including one or more mills and a possible iron working site. There has been considerable disturbance of the whole area in the past, and ground disturbance during construction of the new plant is likely to be minimal, so a watching brief is not recommended in this case. Some photographs were taken but a more detailed record of the features as existing is recommended: it is suggested that this takes the form of a scale plan and photographic record.
