Description

Archaeological excavations were undertaken by M Wildgoose in 1998 at the Farm Steading and Mill complex at Balmacara Square on behalf of The National Trust for Scotland. The archaeological excavation of the steading at Balmacara Square was discussed, and the positions of the trenches worked out, prior to the commencement of the work. Each trench was designed to answer a specific question regarding sequence of construction, dating, existence of earlier floors, etc. The fieldwork was carried out over 24 days, commencing on the 12th August 1998. A total of 26 trenches were excavated during fieldwork. <1>
