Description

Excavations took place over the week of April 1st to 8th, 2000, as part of an ongoing process of improving the infrastructure of Canna and Sanday in upgrading the electricity supply. The area is known to be archaeologically sensitive following the recovery of Iron Age pottery and other midden material from the locality of the exchange. The majority of the excavation was carried out using a mini-digger equipped with a 350mm-wide bucket. Hand excavation was carried out in the immediate vicitity of the barn and exchange the minimise disturbance. <1>
