Date
November 1999
Description
This survey area comprises two adjoining schemes Bunloit A and B, covering a total area of 2 and a quarter kilometre squared. It is situated above the north-west side of Loch Ness some 6km south-west of Drumnadrochit. There are two farmsteads within the area; Balbeg to the north-east and Inchtelloch to the south-west. The areas to the north-west and south-west consist largely of heather moorland, while the strip of land around the farmsteads comprises a mixture of improved pasture and open birch wood. There is only one previously recorded archaeological site within the areas; the Balbeg township. The survey area was systematically walked by a team of two archaeologists and all features of archaeological interest were described and located. The previously unmapped features were located using a Total Station, while mapped features were transferred onto the location map. <1>
