EHG201 - DBA and Walkover survey - Clashnessie Common Grazing
Technique(s)
Organisation
Wordsworth Archaeological Services
Date
03 January 2000
Description
A rapid archaeological survey of an area of proposed new woodland forming part of the Clashnessie Common Grazings, Sutherland, was commissioned by Bowlts Chartered Surveyors. No previous archaeological survey had taken place in this area and since it is a condition of grant from the Forest Authority that all archaeological sites be protected from planting, it was felt desirable that an archaeological survey should take place here. A desk-based assessment had been previously carried out on this area by Magnar Dalland of Headland Archaeology. This was followed by a walk-over survey carried out by John Wordsworth on the 2nd January 2000 in cold blustery, but largely dry, conditions. Conditions for photography were poor, though all major features were photographed and summary descriptions were written. <1>
