EHG2852 - Trial trenching at Torran Beag, Croy

Technique(s)

Organisation

Highland Heritage

Date

October 2008

Description

Seven trial trenches were opened in order to evaluate the site of a proposed housing development. An area totalling 239 sq metres was investigated comprising a 5.31% sample of the site. No structures, deposits or artefacts were located and the widespread presence of boggy ground and field drains indicate that the site may have been waterlogged before 19th century drainage, and may have been unsuitable for settlement or cultivation. Exterior photographs were taken of the existing buildings on the site to supplement those taken a year previously by an architect. <1>
