EHG3459 - Watching brief, Ness Gap (Phases 1a and 1b), Fortrose

Technique(s)

Organisation

Headland Archaeology Ltd

Date

February 2011

Description

Headland Archaeology Ltd conducted a watching brief during intrusive groundworks within Phases 1a and 1b of development on this site. Although prior archaeological evaluation in this area had identified no archaeological remains, it was decided to maintain a watching brief in this area in the light of significant findings elsewhere on the site. Aside from modern pits like those uncovered in the evaluation, there was one other pit containing a sheep/goat-sized animal skeleton which was presumed to relate to recent farming activity. No archaeological features or finds were identified and the burial was not further disturbed. <1>
