Technique(s)
Organisation
Highland Archaeology Services Ltd
Date
February to March 2011
Description
A rapid desk assessment and walk-over survey were carried out to identify sites and features (including Scheduled Monuments) that might be affected by the construction of a new electricity substation at Alness , Ross and Cromarty. Seven alternative sites were checked to assist in site selection and design processes. This forms part of the Archaeological Heritage Impact Assessment for the Beauly to Dounreay 275kv Line Phase 2 Reinforcement Project.
Former quarry workings were identified in Area E and in Area F considerable areas of field clearance were noted which, although they appear modern, might conceal footings of former buildings. A previously recorded Bronze Age burnt mound was also noted. <1>
A revised and slightly expanded report was received in May 2011 and replaces the previous version linked to this record. <2>
