Technique(s)

Organisation

Ross & Cromarty Archaeological Services (RoCAS)

Date

April 2011

Description

A trial trenching evaluation was conducted over the site of a proposed new house. Five trenches were excavated totalling 81 sq metres (17% of the development site). Four main phases of activity were recorded. The earliest phase consisted of a horse burial, and evidence for possible wood working activities, dating from the mid to late 18th century. In the early to mid 19th century the site seems to have accommodated drainage structures. A late 19th-early 20th century midden pit was also identified as well as modern features. <1>-<3>
