Description

In October 2011, a partial inhumation was recovered at Farr by Bettyhill, Sutherland by GUARD Archaeology Ltd, acting on behalf of Historic Scotland under the Human Remains Call-off Contract. An initial photographic record was made after which all the bones were planned, numbered and recovered. Two hummocks of turf immediately adjacent were removed to establish the extent of the remains and the sand deposits were removed and sieved. The location of the previous police excavation of human remains in 2010 was also assessed and excavated to bedrock. The exposed sections of the dune were closely inspected for about 40 metres around the site. <1> Post-excavation report on the analysis of the human remains was requested and received. <2> <3>
