Description

A DBA and walkover survey were carried out by Headland Archaeology Ltd in August 2012 in advance of a proposed wind farm development at Achlachan, near Halkirk, Caithness. The application covered an area of approximately 135ha, approximately 6km south of Halkirk. The DBA revealed evidence of prehistoric activity including a hut circle, a possible cairn and a Scheduled broch. The majority of other features were of post-medieval date and related to agricultural practices. There were 20 scheduled monuments within a 5km boundary of the proposed turbine location. The walkover survey was limited to the inner study area. <1>
