Description
A narrow diameter Eigelkamp gouge corer was used to carry out a series of trial borings to locate the deepest sediments within the basin. The deepest point was chosen for our investigation on the assumption that it would contain the most complete sequence and show the highest temporal resolution, standard practice for an investigation where resources limit analysis to a single sediment core. Cores for laboratory analysis were collected from this point. A total of 680 cm of sediment was retrieved using a 100 cm long Russian corer (6 cm diameter). A 50 cm long chamber (12 cm diameter) was used to obtain samples for radiocarbon dating.<1>
