Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC Archaeology Group

Date

June 2017

Description

An archaeological evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2017 on land southwest of the Glenurquhart Centre, near Drumnadrochit, in advance of the construction of part of a new housing scheme. The evaluation was required in order to inform developers of the potential archaeology that could be found during later phases of the development. Fieldwork was carried out on June 16th 2017. No archaeological remains were identified, however significant prehistoric archaeology was uncovered immediately south of the development during another evaluation, which has led to the recommendation that a watching brief be carried out for all future ground works. <1> Further trial trenching was carried out south of these trenches. (see EHG5167). An intermittent watching brief was subsequently carried out (see EHG). A final report details the findings of the evaluation and the watching brief and post-excavation analysis. <2>
