EHG5241 - Excavation - Cnoc an Each
Technique(s)
Organisation
Historic Assynt
Date
Oct 2013
Description
Historic Assynt conducted a small scale targetted excavation in a byre-house in the small abandoned township of Cnoc an Each in 2013 to compare findings with a larger scale excavation of a byre-house in the abandoned and much larger settlement of Glenleraig which had formed part of its Life and Death in Assynt's Past project in 2012. Two trenches were opened up - one over the suspected hearth area to discover if it revealed evidence of a ventilation system of the kind found at Glenleraig. Fine quality ceramics and glass had been found in the domestic area of the Glenleraig longhouse and so a second trench was placed across the domestic area of this house in order to discover if similar ceramics had been in use on the this site. <1>
